Midjourney
AI image generator that creates high-quality art and photos from text prompts via web and Discord
Stable Diffusion image and prompt search engine that also generates art with its own Aperture model
Lexica began as a free search engine for Stable Diffusion images and their prompts and now generates images with its own Aperture model. Browsing and prompt search stay free with no account; generation is paid. Starter is $8/month billed annually for 1,000 fast generations, Pro is $24/month for 3,000, and Max is $48/month for 7,000 with private images and a full commercial license. Best for creators who want prompt inspiration plus affordable, high-volume image generation.
Lexica started as a search engine for Stable Diffusion output: a browsable gallery of millions of AI-generated images, each shown next to the exact text prompt that produced it. That search product is still free and requires no account, which makes Lexica a common first stop for prompt inspiration — you find an image whose style you like, copy its prompt, and adapt it. On top of that library, Lexica added its own text-to-image generator powered by an in-house diffusion model called Aperture, so you can create images directly on the site instead of only browsing existing ones.
Generation is where the paid plans come in. Each subscription grants a monthly quota of “fast” generations that run at higher priority — 1,000 on Starter, 3,000 on Pro, and 7,000 on Max — while Pro and Max also allow unlimited “slow” generations that are queued and throttled. Higher tiers unlock private images, larger commercial licensing, custom aspect ratios, image uploads, and credit top-ups for going over quota. Extra fast generations beyond the plan allowance are billed per image. Annual billing takes 20% off every tier, so the effective entry price on Starter is $8/month rather than the $10 monthly rate.
Lexica fits creators who value prompt discovery as much as raw generation and who want predictable, high-volume output at a flat monthly cost rather than a per-image credit meter. The free search engine is worth using on its own, but the generator only becomes practical on a paid plan, and privacy plus full commercial rights are gated to the top Max tier.

| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| The free, no-login image and prompt search engine is genuinely useful even without a subscription | Images are public by default on Starter and Pro; keeping generations private requires the Max plan at $48/month |
| High fast-generation quotas (1,000 to 7,000 per month) plus unlimited throttled slow generations on paid plans | Locked to Lexica's own Aperture model — no Midjourney, FLUX, or Stable Diffusion checkpoint choice for style range |
| Annual billing cuts 20% off every tier — Starter effectively $8/month | The free tier is effectively search-only; meaningful image generation requires a paid plan |
| Max bundles private images, a full commercial license, custom aspect ratios, and image uploads | Fast-generation caps mean heavy users on lower tiers fall back to throttled slow generations or pay per extra image |

Image and prompt search is free and needs no account — you can browse millions of AI-generated images and copy their prompts at no cost. Generating your own images requires a paid plan starting at $8/month billed annually ($10/month monthly); any free generation allowance is limited.
Aperture is Lexica's own text-to-image diffusion model. It powers the generation feature, turning text prompts into images directly on Lexica rather than routing to an external model.
The Starter plan includes 1,000 fast generations per month, Pro includes 3,000, and Max includes 7,000. Pro and Max also add unlimited slow (throttled) generations beyond the fast quota.
Fast generations draw from your monthly quota and run at higher priority. Slow generations are unlimited on the Pro and Max plans but are queued and throttled, so they take longer to complete.
Yes. Paid plans include a commercial license — Starter grants a solo commercial license, and Max includes a full commercial license along with private images by default.
Max is $48/month billed annually ($60/month monthly). It adds 7,000 fast generations, unlimited slow generations, private images, custom aspect ratios, image uploads, credit top-ups, and early access to new models.
Yes. Lexica provides a public search API that lets developers query its database of AI-generated images and prompts programmatically.
